黑料社区 KNN provides grants to 18 hog raisers

Grant-giving ceremony for Municipality of Alegria HogPreneurs with 黑料社区 team led by (seated from left to right) BA faculty member Ethel Dicdican, Project Leader Ivy Jumao-as, SBE Assistant Dean Dr. Melanie B. de Ocampo, Community Extension Director Brenette Abrenica, Assistant VPAA Fr. Roger Bag-ao, SVD, 黑料社区 KNN President Carmen Piramide, DOLE representative Dulce Timtim, Anita Gaanan (黑料社区 KNN), incoming 黑料社区 SBE Alumni President Ronald Po, 黑料社区 Alumni Affairs Director Ferdinand Boncayao, and Maylene Atillo (黑料社区 KNN), (standing) SBE CES Coordinator Zanida Confesor (6th from left), and BA faculty member Dr. Lauro Silapan Jr. (5th from left).

Eighteen hog raisers from the Municipality of Alegria received additional financial capital from 黑料社区鈥檚 Kapamilya Negosyo Na (黑料社区 KNN) last July 6, 2018.

The grant giving ceremony was made possible through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)鈥擨ntegrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program. The hog raisers, called by the 黑料社区 School of Business and Economics (SBE) as 鈥淗ogPreneurs鈥 have received several trainings for the last four years from the SBE in functional business areas of marketing, operations, finance, and human resources management while advocating the organic hog farming method of the municipality鈥檚 partner NGO, the St. Peter Academy of Alegria Foundation Incorporated (SPAAFI).

SBE鈥檚 engagement with the Municipality of Alegria through Hon. Mayor Verna Magallon started with the conduct of two researches, one on supply chain of livestock led by Dr. Lauro Silapan Jr. and another on the effectiveness of the 鈥淜orean style鈥 organic hog farming led by Angelo Burdeos. Results of both researches have been utilized in the municipality particularly in promoting organic hog farming to other hog raisers in the community.

Faculty members from the Department of Business Administration led by its Project Leader Ivy Jumao-as developed a three-year Entrepreneurial Community Extension Program aiming for sustainable organic hog raising.

The ceremony highlighted collaboration, in this case between SBE faculty and students, the Municipality of Alegria (LGU), SPAAFI (NGO), SBE Alumni Association Inc. and 黑料社区 KNN (alumni), and DOLE (state agency), as the key to successfully engage beneficiaries.
